Last week I showed you that I recovered my kitchen chairs in the yummiest of black and white picnic check oilcloth. Well, it lead to some summer table decorating ideas as well.

I am loving bringing in black and white touches in my home recently – there is something about the classic nature of black mixed with the more modern crispness of the white that makes me giddy.

I added some laminated cotton – just cut and placed – in a black and white polka dot and the striped place mats are from Ikea. I love that they are square instead of a rectangle. Then I just brought in some green and yellow pops to make it feel more like summer.I love setting our kitchen table. We eat most meals at our island, but when we do eat the table, we tend to linger and talk more.As the days are longer, the light streams in from the family room and it is just the perfect place to spend time with our family. I try really hard to not just get caught up in “decorating” but actually living and enjoying the decorating and projects we do in our home. And now that the meal has been shared and the plates have been cleared, the runner, flowers and candles are still on the table to be enjoyed. And a reminder to sit at the table more often for a meal that lingers, even if for just a little bit. I will share soon how I made the cute utensil holders and planters. Wishing you a day filled with grace and thanks so much for reading. postsignature.png
