THE PUTNAM FAMILY & FINDING HOME FARMS

About Us

Why Finding Home Farms?

Why Finding Home Farms?

At Finding Home Farms, we believe that home should be a place of comfort, connection, and intention. From our farm in the Hudson Valley, we create goods that bring warmth to your table, meaning to your gatherings, and a sense of place to your home.

We’re a family-owned business in the New York, where we tap our own trees and bottle pure, organic maple syrup in our Sugarhouse. What started as a seasonal tradition has grown into a year-round commitment to quality—from our organic maple sryrup and soy candles to the curated goods in our café and market.

Made with Purpose, Shared with Heart

We make and choose every item with purpose. Our pantry staples are crafted to bring real flavor and a sense of comfort to everyday meals. Our soy candles are clean-burning and thoughtfully scented. And we prioritize American-made goods to support local makers and stay connected to the process.

What Sets Us Apart

Real Ingredients & Craftsmanship – Just honest, small-batch products made with integrity.

Rooted in Tradition – Our family has been sugaring for generations. Now we’re sharing it with you.

Made in the USA –We believe in staying close to the process—supporting local partners and making things with care, every step of the way.

More Than Products—A Way of Living

The best moments usually happen in the everyday—sharing breakfast, sitting down to dinner, or giving a simple gift that means something. Our goal is to make it easier to bring those moments to life with products that are well-made, useful, and rooted in tradition.

Welcome to Finding Home Farms. We're so glad you're here.

Maple Syrup

From a Simple Idea to a Gathering Place

Every business has a beginning, but Finding Home Farms started as something entirely different—a blog. Back in 2010, Laura was sharing decorating ideas and DIY projects while Dana was caught in the fast pace of corporate life, traveling the world but rarely home. While the blog grew, so did a realization: life should be more than deadlines and time away. It should be about being present, creating something meaningful, and making home the heart of it all.

So in 2015, our family made a decision—to trade in corporate stress for something more fulfilling. For Dana, that meant returning to his roots. Having grown up on a dairy farm in New Hampshire, his favorite childhood memories were the six magical weeks of “sugaring”—when his family made maple syrup. For years, we had done the same in our own backyard, tapping just enough trees to make syrup for friends and neighbors. And every year, those six weeks were the happiest.

So we took the leap. We built The Sugarhouse in 2017—a place where we could make syrup not just for ourselves, but for others who appreciate real, high-quality food made with care. What started as a small family sugaring operation grew into something bigger: an opportunity to bring people together around good food and a welcoming space.

By 2022, that vision expanded, and we opened The Sugarhouse Café & Market, a place where people could experience our farm firsthand—sipping coffee, enjoying fresh food, and shopping for our organic maple syrup, pantry goods, soy candles, and curated home items.

Finding Home Farms has become more than just a business; it’s a way of living—one that values family, connection, and the simple pleasures of a well-made home. Whether you’re visiting us at The Sugarhouse, stocking your pantry with our maple syrup, or lighting one of our candles at the end of the day, we hope you find something that makes your home feel just a little bit sweeter.

Meet Laura Putnam

For Laura Putnam, home has always been more than just a place—it’s where life happens, where memories are made, and where simple moments turn into lasting traditions. As co-founder of Finding Home Farms, along with her husband, Dana, Laura has spent years helping others create spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and deeply personal.

Her journey started in the world of home décor and design, where she built a thriving business and a widely followed blog, Finding Home, inspiring people to bring beauty and comfort into their homes. But long before that, she honed her expertise in marketing and communications for an internationally recognized shoe brand, learning what it takes to build something that truly connects with people.

Still, something was missing—until she and Dana decided to take a leap. What began as a seasonal maple sugaring tradition in their backyard turned into something much bigger: a full-time business rooted in family, tradition, and the simple joy of good food and a welcoming home. Now, Laura pours her passion into developing products that bring people together—organic maple syrup, thoughtfully made pantry goods, soy candles, and home essentials that make everyday moments special.

Through Finding Home Farms, she’s done more than build a brand—she’s created a place where people can gather, share, and make their own homes feel even more like home.

Meet Dana Putnam

For Dana Putnam, maple sugaring isn’t just a business—it’s in his blood. As a fourth-generation sugar maker who grew up in New Hampshire, his love for the process started early. His father built a small shed so Dana and his brother could have their own sugarhouse, tapping about 80 trees before they were even teenagers. He spent his college years working on the family farm, carrying on the tradition before stepping into corporate America, where he built a successful career in animal nutrition, earning a Ph.D. and leading high-profile global initiatives.

But as the years passed, the fast pace, constant travel, and corporate pressures took their toll. The life he built looked nothing like the one he cherished growing up. He wanted to get back to something real—something tangible, meaningful, and deeply connected to the land.

In 2015, Dana and his wife, Laura, took a leap of faith, turning their family’s long-standing maple sugaring tradition into a full-time business. They built Finding Home Farms not just as a way to produce maple syrup, but as a way to bring people together through high-quality, farm-made products that make home feel special.

Dana thrives at the intersection of old traditions and modern innovation. While he’s happiest tapping trees and boiling sap, he’s always researching new technologies to make the sugaring process more efficient, sustainable, and true to its roots.

As Dana often says, “Finding Home Farms is who we’re supposed to be.” And for him, there’s nothing sweeter than that.

Buttery, Not Overly Sweet Flavor

Our Pure Maple Syrup

As a multi-generational maple syrup producer, we take pride in our organic syrup.  Each drop of our pure maple syrup is 100% organic, free of artificial flavors and additives, infused with our signature love for the land, the maple trees, and our community.

More Than Just Flavor

Our organic maple syrup production starts with a well loved and cared for sugar maple tree. We do everything possible to make sure our forestry practices are in line with certified organic standards.

We specialize in real maple syrup, not pancake syrup, which is just corn syrup and refined sugar combined with maple flavor that is made to taste like maple syrup. Our pure maple syrup is free from added sugar, preservatives, and all of the other ingredients that big names use.

We Specialize in Real Maple Syrup

We are proud to gather and produce pure maple syrup here in the Hudson Valley. Our New York maple farm is made up of thousands of sugar maple trees which provides us the resources to create our smooth and savory real maple syrup. Certified organic, our pure NY maple syrup is hand crafted for you and loved ones to enjoy.

Our maple tree sap goes straight from our trees to our sugar house. There, we concentrate, and purify the pure sap until it reaches organic certification standards. We then filter the piping hot syrup to get rid of any impurities, and stored in clean stainless steel drums until it’s bottled and ready to go home to your table.

The syrup itself can be boiled even further until all of the liquid evaporates from the maple sap, and you are left with delicious maple sugar. Quite the treat.

For More Than Just Pancakes and Waffles

Our maple syrup has fewer calories than both honey and granulated sugar. So, pure syrup can be used as a sweetening ingredient in your favorite baked good recipes and more. Put this natural sweetener with its rich flavor on your warm waffles and french toast, or use it as a delicious topping for ice cream or even add to your coffee.
