Planning for Thanksgiving can take a lot of work. And sometimes is stressful as well. So, as much as possible, I try to plan ahead and keep things simple. Today, I have joined with a group of talented bloggers to share some ideas to get you started on your planning as well. If you are joining me for the first time from Zevy Joy, welcome and thank you so much for stopping by. So now to my tips for keeping things as simple as possible. First, start with a simple and easy to wash tablecloth. I often use a run of fabric that is sized to fit my long table. For this one, I used a knit that is almost like a menswear fabric. I love the unexpected gray color and the simple plaid pattern. Second, if you have hydrangea bushes, go pick them now. For me, once they get past the bright blue color, but before they go to a deep red, they turn a perfect mix of soft blues, green and cranberry. I know that for my bushes, that is the time to pick them. Simply place them in a upright vase or bowl with no water (after removing leaves). By the time Thanksgiving rolls around, they will be dried and ready to be used on your table. If you don't have hydrangea plants yet, I highly recommend the Endless Summer variety (if you are in the right weather conditions for them). They are a little more expensive but grow so well with many blossoms. This is not sponsored - I just love them. Third, pumpkins are not just for Halloween. White pumpkins are perfect for a Thanksgiving table. Keep them in the cooler outdoors (watch for frost though!) until right before you use them and then line them up on your table. I simply mixed them with ironstone pitchers that I filled with hydrangea and sage. Then I placed some cut blossoms of hydrangea throughout the pumpkins. Fourth, use candles. You can never go wrong with candles. They create more atmosphere and usually lead to lingering at the table longer. And finally, use plates, glassware and flatware that can go in the dishwasher. This is my tip every single time I do a tablescape post because I believe in it that strongly. There is nothing worse than trying to enjoy your company and thinking about all the dishes that still need to be done. I hope these tips were helpful and are getting you started on your planning so it is not too stressful! And now please go visit Setting for Four for her lovely ideas.
