The Tuesday morning after Memorial Day weekend is that perfect blend of well rested and bummed that the weekend is over. Luckily, today, I am able to start this Tuesday by joining
Gina of Shabby Creek Cottage on her
Summer Tour of Homes. If you are coming from Gina's where you just saw the home of
House No. 124, welcome! To get ready for our summer home tour, I spent this weekend sprucing things up around our house. Truthfully,
running the business out of our home has taken a toll on our house. I have not been decorating or updating spaces, mostly just turning a blind eye to the piles here and there. Thankfully, we were able to better organize our business spaces and that freed me up to pull together some of the other rooms in our home. It was actually quite refreshing to do some decorating and brighten rooms up. As a result, we really enjoyed being in our home this weekend.
Someday, I really do want to have an old farmhouse. Until then, I will continue to bring farmhouse touches throughout our home. Although it is not yet summer on the calendar, I wanted to bring some summer in. In the past, I have used a lot of
shells and blue colors. This year, I was feeling a touches of black and white, classic elements and pops of bright colors. I really wanted a graphic runner for our coffee table, but I didn't have one. So, I just folded over some fabric and put in in place. I like it so much, I might even try to sew it into a real runner. Or maybe, I will find someone else to do it for me! Sewing is just not my thing.
I always love to add galvanized touches to my home.
I use a mix of vintage pieces and new. These lanterns are from Target last year, but I am pretty sure they have something similar again. They have been on our
front porch, our mantel, our
screened porch and now I am loving them on our kitchen table.
I added some fresh changes to our gallery wall. It does't have to be complicated. I just changed out the pieces on the shelf.
My
DIY tea towel and the
console table my husband and I made are still in the same place because I still love them there. I just added a garage sale painting to brighten things up a little bit more.
After five years, I still love our white farmhouse kitchen. It serves us well and many a meal, in fact most meals, are shared at our island. I always grab one of the stools and sit on the sink side so I can see everyone.
I added my long-missing-now-found whale cutting board and some blue touches on the shelf above the stove and then changed out the towels. Simple and bright changes.
I set our dining room for a summer gathering and even made an old-school paper chain-link banner for the window.
I changed out our
vintage door by taking down the plates, for now, so that I could add some artwork.
More graphic black and white touches with some colorful flowers and napkins.
And of course, it wouldn't be a celebration without some cake and berries. How cute are these cake toppers? This was my first attempt at a "naked-cake", but I must admit, I totally cheated. I bought a cake at the grocery store bakery and scraped off the icing partially. It doesn't get much easier than that.
And while I was snapping away pictures, Hannah Mae decided this would be the first time she would let me get a picture where she looked at the camera. Even though her ear is "inside-out" as usual, I felt it was fitting that she closed things out for us.
With spring being so late around here, our outdoor spaces are still getting a pollen clean up and are a work in process. We do have one
outdoor seating area we pulled together if you want to take a look at that. I want to say thank you to our lovely host,
