Farmhouse Christmas Decorating Home Tour

I have busily been pulling all of the final details together for our Christmas decorating so I can share them with you today. I am hoping you will be able to find some ideas and inspiration so you can use them in your own home. This year, I kept things a little simpler and had farmhouse Christmas decorating in mind. Things start out a little bit more neutral at the front of the house and I brought in a little more color as I moved towards the back of the house. The beautiful garland around my mirror is from Balsam Hill and I love that it runs on a timer and on batteries. The living room was inspired by the beautiful flocked tree that I found this year.

I had not even planned on buying a new tree, but this one just called my name. And then, my embarrassing craft store experience lead to fur garland. That set the tone and I began bringing in a mix of rustic and contrasting elegant details.

I filled some crates at the base with wrapped presents, glittered pine cones, vintage skates and the sweetest pile of vintage Christmas carols song books. Some metallic pillows were added to the couch (why do I have such an obsession with throw pillows?) and layers of greenery were added to the coffee table. I added a rustic lantern found a while ago and layered in a grouping of vintage French horn ornaments.

I set my Advent calendar and devotional on the side table next to my favorite chair to read with my morning coffee.

I kept things fairly simple in the dining room, bringing in some favorite vintage crates and tool boxes, some vintage ornaments and fresh greenery.

I have had this tool box on top of the hutch in the family room for a few years. I am not sure why I had it out of the way for so long. I absolutely love it on my table.

When I am pulling together ideas to decorate our home, I try to keep budgets in mind. So, I thought throughout this post I would share a few budget friendly tips to use. Starting with this little trick with greenery…

I also tied small bunches with twine and a wooden snowflake ornament from each of the chairs. It is a small detail that I think adds a lot.

As we move into our family room, I added a few more reds and lots and lots of one of my favorite colors in the whole world – galvanized. I am not exactly sure if you would agree, but it just seems perfectly Christmas-y to me!

I found this amazing corn dryer this summer and it has already been in many spots in our home. I am loving it on our coffee table with just a few ornaments, a bowl, a candle and some fresh greens.

My favorite little side table is also dressed in greens with vintage ornaments, a sweater textured candle (that I have had forever) and an outdoor candle lantern. The galvanized “25” is just my quirky little touch.

Our tree is filled with a mixture of ornaments and a jingle bell ribbon from Balsam Hill that I used as a garland. The whole tree is set on an upside vintage galvanized bucket to give it a little more height. The topper is from Michael’s and is meant to just be a sign of some sort. I set it right on the branches and the lights run from a battery.

I always love decorating our mantel, and this year everything started with my DIY galvanized wreath I made. I was originally going to switch out the chalkboard for a large mirror but I ended up just loving the wreath on the chalkboard.

Sticking with the same theme as the other spaces, I brought in some candles (found last year at Target), vintage ornaments and greenery. I mixed real and fake greenery here to save a little money and to get a mix of textures.

One of my favorite pictures of my girls sits across from the tree reflecting the prefect little twinkle lights. Greenery, ornaments and a rustic wood candle holder complete the table. Do you see a theme here?

Our office is open to the family room from upstairs. I love being able to be in the office and still hear everything going on in the rest of the house. I can still here the crackle of the fire and see the glow of our tree.

As of last week, our “Putnam” library ladder (gifted to us by a friend) was finally hung on the rails and not just resting against the wall. We also added a beautiful shelf above it. Truthfully, the main goal was the rails, the shelf was just an added bonus. I added a few wooden trees found at Marshalls and some green trees found at Target a few years ago.

One of my favorite vintage wooden boxes made it back to the kitchen table and it is all decked out for Christmas.

And my favorite little dairy bucket was moved to our small console table.

I added a few items to our glass console table (Pottery Barn – but found at an estate sale) including my French wire basket and the vintage ruler Christmas trees I made. The milk can was a major find on the side of the road in a “free pile” this summer.

Our kitchen is already white and farmhouse in style, so I just brought in a few Christmas details. A small evergreen in a vintage crock and a red joy sign change things up on the island, but I like to keep it simple and open for cooking and baking.

Above the stove is my vintage masher collection with a few spindles mixed in and greenery. I chose to use fake there for safety reasons.

For the first time, I took down our vintage blue mason jars from the window ledge and in their place I put a trio of ironstone pitchers with greenery. The small sign was found at an Etsy shop last year (they are no longer carried).

I brought out my santa mugs – both big and small. Kitchens do not need to be too serious in my mind, especially at Christmas.
