If George Washington Slept at a Beach House
Where I grew up, there were always plaques on different houses proudly claiming that…
George Washington Slept Here.
It was always a running joke that Ol’ George really got around.
But with all the places I saw, none of them really seemed like a vacation.
You know, to recover and warm up from all the battles and crossing the Delaware River.
They were all in cold temperature areas with upright, uncomfortable looking formal furniture.
I have got to think, that just once, George would have liked to stay in a beach house.
A beach house with a table big enough for all of his favorite troops to sit around and enjoy a meal together.
And comfortable furniture where they felt it was okay to put their feet up.

And a kitchen, dare I say, where he would want to whip up a batch of sweet tea.

And where he could put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign to have a few minutes alone in a claw foot tub.

And sleep in a beautiful big fluffy bed with the blinds closed tight so he could sleep in.

And maybe he want to switch around where he stayed and wake one morning to filtered light streaming in through windows that also let in the nearby sea breeze.

And he might wonder what Coke was, but he sure would enjoy one that was frozen if he could sip it…

…on a wide open porch with the most beautiful blue floor anyone has ever seen.
And I think he would want to start his day strolling to the ocean as the sun begins to rise overhead and begin to burn off the fog.
