What a Wonderful World

Do you have certain memories that no matter how old they are – they are still vividly clear?

I remember being on an Amtrak train, heading south towards a Connecticut train station.  We were going through the naval yard.

I was returning home from visiting my boyfriend for the weekend in New Hampshire.  My mom wouldn’t let me drive the trip from New Jersey to New Hampshire, so train travel it was.

I was deep in thought and all of a sudden I had a realization – a big one.

Probably the biggest of my life.

I wanted to marry that boy.

I realized instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

Me, a girl who was only 20 at the time.  We had only been dating a year.  And, he was really my first boyfriend.  Who was I to be thinking I should be getting married?  I knew nothing about dating, or boys or weddings.

But I knew.

And I was so very right.

And when it came time to pick our wedding song – our first dance together at our wedding, we picked a classic.

What a Wonderful World

Because I knew we would have a wonderful life and world together – that we would face each step of it together.

And this fall, we will celebrate twenty years of marriage.  Twenty years of growing up together.  Learning about life and marriage together.

And there have been ups and downs – and I am sure it will continue to be more of the same.  But being married to that boy really does make it a wonderful world.

And I am so thankful to him for that.

And I am so thankful to the talented and kind Tara of the shop Between You and Me who made this beautiful sign as a daily reminder of how lucky we are to be together.

Stop by her shop to see all of her amazing signs – and she is also kind enough to be offering all of my readers a 10% discount with the code FINDINGHOME.

Wishing you a beautiful day.

  1. So blessed by this. Married at 18 to my wonder hubby and this Friday will be a celebration of 27 years and five children together. Love this sign. God is good! xoxo

  2. I love reading happy stories! I have been married to my Honey for 44 years, and we have 3 fantastic children and 3 outstanding grandsons. That song is my oldest son’s favorite. I think that you have to look for the good and you will see it. Thank you for a beautiful start to my day.

  3. I will celebrate 28 years of marriage this year and feel the same way about my man. We are blessed women! I love Tara’s shop. I ordered her Narnia quote to go over the fireplace in my play room several weeks ago. I can’t wait for it to arrive! Love your blog!

  4. LOVE this song – has very special meaning to me as well ( my dad). Was it a custom piece, I didn’t see it in their Etsy shop?

  5. I love this. The sign is wonderful. Congratulations on 20 yrs of together. I love that song, and it is now stuck in my head. 🙂 My hubby and I have been married 19 yrs. this coming May. We dated for 6 yrs before we got married. I met him back in high school, in 1984, as we had friends in common (his best friend and my best friend were brother/sister). I can’t believe I have known him for 30 yrs this year!! We have had our share of ups and downs as well, but I couldn’t imagine it being with anyone else.

  6. That is so very lovely! I also hold that song very near and dear to me, it certainly got my attention as soon as I saw the words. The board is such a beaut, and the words alone derived from a wonderful appreciation for life. An all time classic of love for all things!

  7. THis song never fails to make me smile – and get a little teary at the same time! Beautiful story!! We celebrated THIRTY years last August – and I would do it all over again! 🙂

  8. Loved this and the sign. Where could I get a sign like it. Something good to think about everyday. Keep doing what you do, it really is a WONDERFUL WORLD.

  9. You struck a chord with many of us – I love this song too and often it makes me cry happy tears. I’d love to have one of those signs too.

  10. Love the sign and the song!! It’s my favorite and my Dad uses this song as my ring tone when I call him!! Congratulations on your twenty year anniversary this year!!

  11. Congratulations! I love your story. I will be married to my husband next month for 30 years. We married young too I was 21. We have two beautiful daughters. Our oldest just got married 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for such a nice post.

  12. Thank you for your lovely story! I was an older bride, but even so, my husband was my first real boyfriend and my first true love. We will celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary in June. So many blessings, past and future!

  13. WOW, that was my song at my wedding in Vegas on April 1st! Was divorced for almost 25 years, inasmuch as, I don’t settle or extremely picky. Picked Vegas in case it didn’t work out, could use that Whatever Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas, or my back up April Fools. Will be married 9 years in April and he’s still my most cherished friend and hubby. Loved your story.
