Where Women Create

I am not sure when I first found Jen O’Connor of Earth Angels Studios, but whenever it was,  I was taken by her style and her business accomplishments.  She was doing things that I only dreamed about.  And then, I found a full story of her in Country Living magazine.  I still have that article.

After realizing she was somewhat local to me, I attend an event.  I did not dare introduce myself at the time.  A few more events went by and finally at one, I introduced myself.  And she invited me for lunch at tea room.  Really.

Since then, she has encouraged me and advised me and befriended me and I am so thankful for it.  Since that first tea luncheon, there have been other lunches.  There have also been the “running into each other” at several different running events.  And through it all I have found a friend and a mentor.

Last year, at this time, we met up for lunch and I shared with her where we were with the new direction of our business and she asked me if she could write a story on me / us for Where Women Create.  That was a pretty simple yes to answer.

And here were are in 2016 and on the stands right now is the current issue of Where Women Create, and we are in it.  I am so thankful and appreciative,  to Jen and also to Jo Packham who is the creator of the publication along with its sister magazines.  Oh, and all the other ladies (and men) who are featured are just amazing company to be with.  I usually find them at Michael’s or Joanne Fabrics if you are looking for one.  You can also find them online through Jo’s site.

It is not lost on me that this journey started with me pulling out a magazine article on Jen and then leading to Jen writing an article on us.   I love to look back on relationships or accomplishments and realize the steps that lead to get there.  Like how not getting in early admission to college actually led to me meeting my husband and some of my greatest friends.  (that story if for another day!)  I love looking back on all the steps that lead us here even though I had no idea where it was going.

It is a reminder to me, and maybe even to you.  We need to push ourselves out of our comfort zones.  We need to seek out people who inspire us, whether it be in person or through their chosen method of communication.   Figure out what is you love, even if you don’t know what it looks like or will be and just start to make something happen.  You just never know where it will end up.

  1. What a wonderful story… I can’t wait to pick up a copy! The impact of stepping out sometimes is huge and fruitful. I can still remember Bonnie and I stepping way out of our comfort zone when we chose to attend Haven. I’m so grateful that we did and met a few ultra-talented ladies that have become such wonderful friends. All of your success is so well-deserved!

    Take care,

  2. Hi Laura – I could not agree with you more… You do have to push yourself out of the comfort zone to get where you dream to be . :-). I will look for the magazine the next time I am at the bookstore or Michaels. It looks like a beautiful feature about you and your business.

  3. Laura,
Your stories are inspiring. Blessings are everywhere.
Sometimes our life path makes more sense looking back than it did looking forward.

  4. How exciting for you to be featured in Where Women Create! I love that magazine and own a copy of the book that started it all. It has been very inspirational to me and I referred to it many times while creating my home studio. It’still delightful to go back through issues of the magazine that I have bought–there is always something new to find in them! Congratulations on being in print!!

  5. Reading this has hit home for me. I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time with my Painted furniture Business. I am doing things right now and I’m stepping out of my comfert Zone! Reading this article makes me think I’m going in the right direction. I will be picking up the Magazine today! Thanks!

  6. Incredible! Hope I can find a copy of the magazine. All your efforts are absolutely commendable (and of course the efforts of Dana and the girls). Not only does the family that prays together stays together, but the family that works together stays together, and you are a all a wonderful example of how to do it all. So proud of you and your accomplishments, you amaze me, and I’m glad you give others the ability to find that amazement through your stories.
