Just like the rest of the year, I like to use vintage decor at Christmas.
Yesterday, I shared some projects I made for an upcoming Holiday sale of some tabletop decorations.
Today, I wanted to share with you the vintage sleds that I pulled together.
I spend the year gathering sleds here and there – garage sales, estates sales and auctions.
The principals are the same for each – wire together some greenery and some interesting details – wire them to the sled (I use floral wire) – add a bow and you are done!
I found sleds of several different sizes – I personally really like the smaller ones, but each one is decorated differently.
I found most of my supplies (that aren’t vintage) at a wholesaler because I was making so many of them. However, equivalents can be found at most craft stores.
This is one is pretty traditional – greenery, jingle bells and a plaid flannel bow.
Same idea here – but that one large bell that is really magnificent when it rings. I really like the extra layer of ribbon hanging from the bow.
This one is more rustic – buffalo plaid ribbon and some red and white ornaments.
This one goes a different direction with greens and golds and some children’s ice skates. I removed the laces and replaced it with sheer ribbon.
This sled is quite tall – I added some extra greenery to balance its size, another large jingle bell and some vintage skates.
This one I decided to hang a stocking and added the greenery inside the stocking. I stuffed the bottom of the stocking first to fill it, added a bow and a reindeer ornament.
Working in the same idea – but this time with a vintage window frame.
I painted it, added the chicken wire and wired on the stocking. I decided to get a little fancy and added some lights on the perimeter. They are run from a battery pack so it could be used anywhere.
And a second window – this one had more cross bars so I left off the chicken wire. I added another pair of children skates filled with greenery.
These were actually quite easy to do and would be a great addition to your Christmas decor or for a gift.
If you are local and would like more information about the sale, you find out more on my Facebook page.
Thanks so much for reading.

Fantastic work, I love it
I was on the hunt for some old sleds and found two yesterday., now I need some skates, but unlikely in the south! your ideas are so inspiring.
I love all of them!
I love them all too. I have my old sled that I used when I was a little girls outside that I painted. The paint is coming off in spots but I figure that adds charm.
Amazing sleds Laura…decorated so wonderfully!…I love them all..so cannot choose a favorite…I do love the skates…
I put a sled out on my front porch too…it used to hang in my family room several houses ago…You make Christmas magical with your magnificent creations!!!
these are gorgeous! I have been admiring sleds like this, but I only seem to find crazy expensive ones (100-200 without any adornments). I would love something like this by my fireplace =)
Beautiful as always Ms Laura! I added a vintage sled to our fireplace this year too. Just put it on the blog this morning. Great minds think alike 🙂

My favorite is your sled with the buffalo check ribbon. I think I will make a bow with that ribbon for my sled. Thanks for your wonderful ideas. I love your blog!
Beautiful sleds! I also collect vintage sleds throughout the year to decorate and sell. Just wondering, out of curiosity, what your price range is for the decorated sleds? I charge according to age, condition and amount/type of decoration added. My favorite design to do is using the vintage ice skates, but I’m down to only a couple pairs now! Your work is beautiful!
Hi,
Can you tell me if your decorative sheds are for sale? Picture # 2 on your site with the single gold bell is of interest.
Thank you,
Tiffany
