Did you know that Archie Bunker’s chair is on display, in a glass case, at the Smithsonian Museum of American History? Yup, it is true. I saw it for myself.
In the same place as the original Kermit the Frog, the Ruby Slippers and the flag that the Star Spangled Banner is based on?
Truly, pieces of American history.
And right next to Archie’s chair – is Edith’s. With its dainty lines and doily on the back.
What is about a chair that is so defining?
Seeing those chairs made me realize, I have a “Mom’s Chair”.

There are no unwritten rules that says no one else can sit there.
But somehow, almost no one does.
But I do.
Because it is the far corner of our house – and it looks back on all that goes on.
I can sit here and see the upstairs hallway, the family room, the kitchen and the front hallway.
If I am sitting here, it is to take a moment and take it all in.
It seems to be the one area I always update for the seasons. I add or take away a throw blanket. Add a bright and colorful pillow.
Somehow, reflecting the seasons is my attempt to mark time and slow things down, even if for just a moment.
When I sit in that chair I realize that in a blink, winter is over and spring is moving through quickly.
That the forsythia are blooming, but quickly the yellow will be all gone and they will be big unruly green bushes.
Somehow, when I sit in this corner, in this chair, with its pretty pillow – time slows for just a moment. I notice that my Sunshine’s legs may be a mile long, but she is still willing to come and snuggle on my lap. I can watch Peanut cartwheel across the room or listen to her play the saxophone or sing from her bedroom.
And then the phone rings, or the laundry buzzes or it is time to make dinner. But that is okay, that is part of life.
Because my chair is not in the Smithsonian, it is right in my happy little corner waiting for me whenever I have a moment.
And the best news is, you too can create your own pretty corner to escape to.
This beautiful pillow is from Chandler Four Corners – a new company I found while shopping with my Betties a few weeks ago. They make beautiful and plush pillows, rugs and furniture accents.

Awwww I love your Mommy Chair. I have one too, but I guess its a Grammy Chair. 🙂 And mine is situated where I cam see everything, aka “referee.” 🙂 I adore your mossy frog. Too cute. Have a great weekend.
I love your chair. The pillow is wonderful too. Love the pop of color. I have a chair similar to yours in my bedroom. It holds a couple of pillows and a throw. Your home is so homey and cozy and welcoming.
Your chair and the surrounding spot is perfect. Love the fresh flowers sitting beside the chair. I saw the ad for this company on your sidebar the other day and clicked on it. They have some really cute things. That pillow is wonderful and adds the perfect pop of color to your chair.
Love your little spot in the corner. It’s important to have such a place you can go to if even for a few minutes until the next task calls you to get up and move along. Enjoy!

I loved your reflections on motherhood, Laura. I think it’s the appreciation of the little things that makes life sweet. (And a great chair doesn’t hurt either!)
