Summer Decorating Ideas

We have just a little taste of warmer weather and my mind has already wandered to summer decorating ideas.  It doesn’t take much for my mind to wanted to days without hectic schedules, warm sunshine, swimming and sand between my toes.  There is nothing I love more than the more relaxed pace of summer with my girls home.

So, today I thought I would share with you some of my summer projects so we can start thinking – SUMMER!

If you are not ready for summer ideas and still lingering in the days of spring, no worries.  I wrapped up all of my spring decorating projects as well.

One of my most favorite projects was the summer mantel I created a few years ago, starfish, shells and pretty blue glass (mason jar lids) strung together on a rope.

It doesn’t need to be too complicated and busy.  The garland is hung on an old barn wood door and then there are mason jars, small candles and a few shells in front- done!

Another summer mantel I worked on was my baseball bat flag..

Again, trying to keep it simple – I surrounded it with some simple branches, jars, shells and a starfish shaped basket.  And don’t worry, I did a tutorial for the baseball bat flag on how we made it.

I am usually not much of a wreath person, but while I was working on another project, I came up with the idea for this summer wreath.  You can find the whole tutorial in the post.

And if you are not looking for mantel decor, or a beachy wreath – how about setting a simple summer table.

If you want to start working on projects for outside, how about a fun vintage silverware whirligig for your garden.

But what I am looking forward to the most is lingering in our screened porch – it is where I seem to relax the most!  It is just steps from our house and pulls our whole backyard together.

If you have ever struggled with finding cushions to fit vintage outdoor furniture, you can find my tips here.

The first project I am going to be working on outdoors is finishing the inside of our daughters’ playhouse.  It was quite a story of how it came to be and now we need to decorate inside – my favorite part.

  2. These are all fantastic projects! Since I recently started following you, I missed all of them last summer. The baseball bat flag really caught my eye, it’s awesome! I love your screened in porch, too. Very colorful and relaxing!

  3. Wow, how timely. Found a set like yours and will be picking it up today. Fortunately, the set has custom thick nice cushions…ugly fabric! You helped me answer the question that, yes, it is worth the money to cover the existing cushions
Buying big box ready mades would not be a savings of dollars or make them function as well. Very pretty screen porch. Aaaah, summer.
