Simple Fall Flower Arrangement

Hydrangea-Maple-Bucket-Arrangement

Yesterday, I was out running errands with my girls and stopped in a few places to find some fall decorations.  When it was all said and done, I came home with nothing.  I just felt like there was nothing new or my style in the stores.  When I got home, I decided I would try and old stand-by to bring some fall into our home..nature, a simple fall flower arrangement.

I went in our yard and cut some of our hydrangea that are just about the right color to dry and then set about finding the perfect container to put them in.  I always have loved the look of a big opened bucket, but that just takes too many flowers to fill.   Instead, I used a simple trick and added three tall mason jars (filled with water) inside a vintage sap bucket.

I trimmed them all down inside to have a fresh cut and to bring them closer to the height of the bucket.

I kept turning and filling and making sure that the stems were in water and there were no holes.

Actually, I took a video of the whole process and was going to make a cute video to the cutest music.  Of course, I picked out the music before I even tried to edit the video.  Then, I realized, I had the camera in the vertical position the whole time and the video was useless.  Next time.

Of course, decorating with nature is not a new idea.  My sweet friend Stacy of Not Just a Housewife recently wrote a book all about using nature and natural elements to decorate your home.  It is fittingly called, Natural Accents.

There are all types of projects.  Some will take minutes like the arrangement above and some are more elaborate projects.  All of them will inspire you to look at decorating with nature in a whole new way.

Also, I was lucky enough to save a whole bunch of the vintage maple buckets that I used in my arrangement.  They are now for sale in our shop if you would like one for yourself.

Thanks so much for reading.
