This is the story of a very sad room.
It had been left just as it had been pulled together in the 80’s. And there it sat.
With its plaid couch, textured wall paper, oak cabinets, tired rug and a wall that needed to go.
And so the journey began to make it a happy room.
Contractors were hired to paint the trim. The carpet was pulled out and replaced with hardwood floors.
And the biggest change?
The wall between this room and the kitchen was knocked down.
New furniture and accessories were purchased and carefully laid out.
But it still wasn’t right.
Can you see why?
Yup, it was the brick fireplace. It was throwing off the whole room.
Now, every step of this project was hard fought change for the home owner and this was the end of the project.
I really thought me telling her the fireplace had to be painted would put her over the edge.
The compromise – she would agree if it was cheap.
Which meant – I was doing it.
So her son pulled the front grates off and I spray painted them with heat safe black spray paint.
And then I showed up one afternoon with this product, an open afternoon and my iPod with a great mix of music.
I am thankful she was not home to hear my singing.
And a few hours later….
The room was serene and peaceful.
And all of the pretty furniture and accessories made sense.
And the room was happy.
I always love a story with a happy ending.
And this one has a lesson in it too.
Sometimes, it really is okay to paint a brick fireplace.
Wishing you a great day and thanks for reading.
i LOVE how this turned out — the home looks so beautiful and comfortable too.. especially with that painted fireplace!
And that old brick fireplace really loved that bright
White paint.
Laura the paint doctor is in! Great transformation, glad you were able to convince her.
That was exactly what the room needed! You did a great job, although I’m sure it wasn’t easy.
I plan to paint mine, the room is going to become my new craft space. I’m excited it’s a 23×12 room! Will you share what you did to paint it?
Laura the room looks great. Painting the fireplace made such a difference.
Wow that made such a huge difference! Love the painted brick.
Great information! I am decorating a house right now that needs to have the fireplace painted! I am going to show her these pictures and see what we can do! Thanks for sharing! Life to the full, Melissa
So much better and brighter! So glad the homeowner gave you the go-ahead!

Yes, the fireplace HAD to be painted unless you wanted an Early American decor. I also painted my fireplace brick and it was an ugly yellow.
It looks fantastic!! Way way better. I love the look of painted brick, I think more people should do it. So nice!! ~Angela~
All the difference in the world! I love it Laura – so glad you convinced your client! We have no fireplace in site, but the painted one makes me really wish we did! xo, Kimberly
Looks great, Laura! I’ll bet you are wondering what took you so long. I have a room that would brighten my day if I would just tackle a few things in there.

Loved this!
I went to the website from where you purchased your paint for the fireplace. Which color option did you choose?
