Decorating Ideas: Table Setting Tips
Yesterday, I shared with you my Easter Tablescape.
Today, I am going to share a few decorating ideas and tips – most specifically with tablecloths and table runners.
And I am going to share a little secret with you.
This is not an eyelet lace tablecloth.
In fact, it is a super cheap Walmart plain white cotton table cloth. Placed over the top is a run of eyelet lace fabric. I left the ends unfinished because they were clean and straight. However, if you wanted, you could trim it with sharp scissors, pinking shears, hem the ends or hem the ends with a version of no sew tricks.
My table is rather thin, so it does fall over the sides nicely. However, if you had a wider table, you could use it more as a full length table runner to achieve the same look. I also could have used a contrasting color tablecloth underneath for a totally different look. The color would have shown down the sides as well as through the openings in the lace.
I have used this trick several times before and find that it gives me the look I want for a tablecloth without the expense of buying one as long as my table. Or, the hassle of trying to find exactly what I wanted. I just headed to Joann Fabrics and picked out the type of eyelet lace that I liked.
I have done this before using tweed
and houndstooth suting fabric
and even black lace over burlap at Halloween.
So, there you have it – my secret. This trick can be applied to buffet tables as well during holidays.
