Dark Chocolate Pretzel Bark

If you have been around a bit you know I am not a baker and I like to keep things simple.  This time, I think I took “simple” to a new level.  If I had known how simple and yummy this was, I would have been doing this for years.  My favorite cookie recipe is a whole afternoon ordeal.  This dark chocolate pretzel bark I made while I was getting ready this morning.  It is perfect for sharing around the holidays, and really year round – and it is the perfect simple and affordable gift as well. This is what you will need to make it:

  • Dark chocolate melting chocolate.  I used Wilton’s purchased at Michaels, but really almost any kind of chocolate will work.  I chose dark chocolate because, well because its dark chocolate.
  • Pretzels – obvious I realize.
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie sheet
  • Microwave safe bowl
  • Rubber spatula
Yup, that is it. To make it:
  • Follow the directions on the bag for melting the chocolate in the microwave.  Use a microwave safe bowl.   My microwave is terrible and slow so I won’t give you that as a guide line.  But, I will give you these tips.  First, do not use full power.  Set it at least at 50%.  Second, mix often.  It dissolves more as you mix and prevents it from overheating.  Third, the bowl really gets hot so use oven mitts or some sort of protection.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper while the chocolate is melting.  Once melted, use a rubber spatula to scoop the chocolate out of the bowl and onto the parchment paper.  Once it is all out, spread it out to an even layer.  Sprinkle crumbled pretzels on top of the chocolate.  Pat them down with the spatula to make sure it is sticking to the chocolate.
  • I found one bag covered half of a sheet.  When I melted the second bag I just overlapped it with the chocolate already on the sheet and blended it together.  Leave a few spoonfuls of chocolate in the bowl.  Add pretzels to the second side of the cookie sheet.
  • Using your spatula, scoop out the last of the chocolate and drizzle it over the top.
  • Put it in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Once set, break it up into small pieces
It is perfect for sharing at home, bringing at a potluck or wrapping it up as a personalize gift.
