Coming Back, Catching Up and Balance

Hello All.

My sincerest apologies for not being back to my blog for two weeks.

Where have I been?

Well, pretty much right here, just way out of balance, off kilter, and not feeling well.

Do you struggle with the balance part as well?

Balancing family, home, cleaning, blog and work?

I find I keep focusing so much on one side, that all the others suffer, and then it reverses back the other way.

And the one thing that seems to always suffer, sleep!

As much as I have missed being here, the time has been spent well.

I feel like I have a new focus and direction, and I am hoping it is to the benefit of my blog.

As I mentioned, I participated in an art show last weekend in Lafayette, NJ.  The Old Lafayette Emporium hosted 7 vendors with varying types of arts and crafts.  The other vendors were under the tent next to my set up.  I was better suited out front because of the quantity of merchandise I brought.

So, I am sure you are wondering, how did it go?

Well, I met some really nice people, got a good sense of the amount of work necessary for a show like this.

But, honestly, it was pretty slow.

The store vendors were even surprised because this town usually gets pretty heavy weekend traffic.

After a slow Saturday, everyone expected Sunday to be a better day.

At a certain point, I just had to laugh it was so slow.

What are you gonna do?

I wish I had been able to get a better read on my merchandise in this type of venue, but it is what it is.

Sunday, did however, bring a breath of fresh air with these lovely ladies.

One of my readers, Anja, who lives in Virginia contacted to let me know that her aunts, Jean and Mina live in Lafayette.  They so kindly came to visit me and were such a great joy to meet.  I so appreciated them taking the time even after a long day of work.  I hope they like the wreaths that they bought!

I am now off to dress my oldest daughter and her friend as peacocks for a Halloween party!

And, then on Sunday, my baby turns 11!

I will be back next week for sure and I will get back to Show & Tell Friday as well.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading!

  1. Hi Laura,
Your space looked great. I missed seeing your posts but you must take care of yourself so that you can take care of your family and whatever else needs “taking care of”.

  2. Yay! I’m so glad “the twins” made it! I’m so pleased Laura, in spite of the slow traffic, and I’m glad they were able to brighten your day. I should have asked J & M to grab that turquoise mason jar for me! Turquoise is my favorite color!

As to your question about trying to find balance; you are not alone, it’s a constant battle. I am a stay-at-home homeschooling mom to two young boys; I attend graduate school part-time, and there is a field placement of 20 hours a week as part of my curriculum (I’m studying social work). Plus there’s church; I’ve declared my intention to begin exploration of pursuing the office of deacon at my church…which means there may be seminary in my future. We’re currently also in the market to buy a house in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. This year I’ve survived a major health scare (a pulmonary embolism) in addition to my thyroid issues, which often slow me down. Do things fall by the wayside? You bet! One of the reasons why I read your blog is because I am domestically challenged, and hope to become more adept at creating a home for my family. So know that you aren’t alone in your struggle for balance, and be gentle with yourself during the times when regrouping is necessary. We appreciate the special gifts you share with us here on your blog. -A. in VA

  3. Too bad you aren’t in So. California…your beautiful things would go like THAT!!!!! LOVE your staging of everything….good luck…

  4. BALANCE is so hard. LOVE the sale and the weather looks fantastic. Nice to know your sense of humor is intact! I’m usually a ‘non-commenter’ but the balance thing struck a cord with me. So hard to juggle home/work/kids/blog and mine is a tiny tiny blog.. certainly not a moneymaker… there is no time for that!

  5. I am sorry it was so slow, I have been to shows like that were I didn’t even make my booth fee back. UGH! Your things look beautiful though.
I am glad that you took some time for yourself and family, it is good to disconnect sometimes and recharge. 🙂 Balance is a hard thing but just remember to do what makes you happy. 🙂
Have a Happy Halloween and happy Birthday to your daughter!!!
    xoxo
