7 Steps For Organizing Your Home – Without Getting Overwhelmed

I must admit something.
Sometimes, I don’t do something simply because of the fact that it is trendy.
Really, that is just silly. If I like something, I should buy it. If I want to do something, I should do it – whether it is trendy or not.
But something in me feels a need to resist.
And one of those trends that has been around forever is that at the start of the new year, organizing.
Are you starting plans for organizing your home too?
As much as I don't want to get caught up in the trends, I am craving the need to organize and get SO many things in shape and more functional in my home.
But then, I start to feel panicked and overwhelmed because the list keeps growing and it seems so unachievable.
But then, I did one something.
I organized our mudroom / laundry. Actually, I should say WE organized it. It was really a mess and needed a full team to pull it together. And when it was all said and done – it felt good.
So, I thought I would share some thoughts on how I am planning on approaching a long list of projects for getting my home organized – without getting overwhelmed.
But, these are not New Year’s Resolutions – those are way too trendy! ;)
1 – The obvious step of starting with a list

I am a visual person and having it front of me is helpful. And nothing feels better than crossing each item off and then seeing it all done. Give yourself the satisfaction of crossing something off by starting with a list.
Tips for Organizing a Small Linen Closet

Dear Mom,
Your greatest dreams have come true.
After
fourteen years, I finally figure out how to approach organizing our
small linen closet. You no longer need to be overwhelmed when you see
it.
Love, Me.

When I shared with you my organizing plans recently, several of you asked me to share my progress along the way – and this, is my first success story!
This
closet and I have never gotten along. I have never been able to get
past how narrow it is or how only two of the shelves are full depth.
But now, I feel a bit of love.
And I am not the only one.
Hubby
just opened it now and said, “wow, it looks really good in here. Did
you take all your pictures because I want to use that blanket?”
But the best part is, he could find the blanket.
That would not have happened yesterday.

Painted Canvas: Mod Podge Photo Transfer

Our place, as a family – is Long Beach Island in NJ. There is just something about being there that does our souls good. Years ago, we went to a special spot on the northern end and had some pictures taken. Last year, we went back and I attempted to recreate some of the same photos now that the girls were older.

But one picture was a new shot and one that melted me. What is about a picture of the back of my kids walking? And then add their Dad and I am sold.
Sandy took its toll on my parent's beach condo so we just don’t know if we will make there this year, but if not – we still have this sweet reminder.
So I decided to create a painted canvas of the image with Mod Podge Photo Transfer medium.
