Graphic-Silhouette-Art_edited-1 Truth time. My younger daughter has been so ready for us to do her room over. We have great plans. We have piles of items waiting to go in, including a glorious vintage quilt filled with very unexpected colors. We bought a desk, know what bed we are painting and have a good idea of what the new wall color will be. I even have plans for what I hope will be an amazing mural. What we don't have is action. What we don't have is time. Our summer has been so busy we have done a single thing for the room yet. So, to appease her a bit, and since I had a few minutes, I decided to make her some new artwork for her room. So why not make this project, quick and easy silhouette wall art, part of our monthly 10 Minute Decorating Ideas. Gallery-Wall-Silhouette-Art I have long had a love of silhouettes so I decided to go that direction. But, I wanted to mix it up with bright colors and a graphic pattern. I am so in love with this mix of the pink and the navy. When I tried to decide what type of silhouette to do, I was immediately drawn to the idea of a barn. I guess I am feeling all "farmy" since we changed our blog name last week. Gallery-Wall-Ideas I chose to do a barn silhouette, but the possibilities for this project are pretty much endless. Any shape will do. If you choose something more intricate, it is not likely to be finished in ten minutes, but choose what you love. You can also choose any type of patterns or colors. I am thinking of trying this again, but instead of using scrapbook paper, I would love to use vintage wall paper. Maybe I can even salvage some of the border that is in her room now. Colorful-Sihouette-Art To get started, you have to choose your image and print it. I simply went to Google Images and typed in barn silhouette. I cheated a bit because I wasn't able to print the actual image, but I just did a screen shot and printed that to size. You will also need scissors, your choice of paper, a cutting mat, an Exacto knife, a paper cutter, some tape, a ruler. a glue stick and your frame. Easy-Silhouette-Art-Materials Cut out the outside of your shape using your scissors. Tape your decorative paper in place to your cutting mat. Then, tape it down to the back side of your paper that you are cutting. Using your ruler and Exacto knife, cut out your shape. The ruler will help you keep your cuts straight. Keep in mind, if your image is directional, you should tape the image to the front of your paper. Just use extra care when removing the tape. I chose to not cut out the detail areas ahead of time, I just made sure to use enough pressure for it to cut through both pieces of paper. Teen-Bedroom-Art-Ideas Cut your background paper down to size with a paper cutter. I cut mine to 8" x 10". Simple-Wall-Art-Tutorial Use your glue stick to attach your cut image to your background paper and place it in your frame. Colorful-Sihouette-Wall-Art-Tutorial It really is that easy! Right now, I have it hanging in our office. A little reminder to get my tush in gear and get working on my daughter's room! Colorful-Gallery-Wall
